December 18 Update

Happy Friday, McKinley!

I hope you had a great week of learning and relationships!

Return Date - January 11:
As you saw from Superintendent Elstad's email yesterday, we are returning students to McKinley on January 11.  Many of our leadership teams have been brainstorming what a re-entry plan would look like - more information will come out on this!  Please know that there is a lot of time, energy, and collaboration going into this process.  Staff will be wearing masks and shields - shields are being ordered and will be available to you.

I will continue to update you as I know more information.

Transition Days:
We will still do a student transition day at on January 4 - when students return virtually.  The options and activities for that day may be used that week, instead.  We have students on January 4, 5, and 6.

School is closed Thursday, Jan 7 and Friday, Jan 8 for staff to transition back into the new learning model.  More will come on this.

When students return on January 11 to in-person, we will have another transition process for students.

So, basically, we have a lot of transition coming :)

December 11 Update

Happy Friday, McKinley!
I hope you've had another great week of learning and relationships!

A huge thank you to Steph and Selena for doing the material pick up on Wednesday.  We handed out materials for both McKinley and Distance Learners - over 600 items.  A huge thank you for doing this!

Reporting COVID Symptoms:
If you have COVID or are a close contact, please continue to report this to Judy.  This is critical - honestly, this data will help get us back into "in person learning" at McKinley.  This is for both a positive test as well as if you are a close contact.  Please, please, please remember to report this - even as you are teaching virtually.

Transition Day - Jan 4:
We are working on some activities for a January 4 Virtual Transition Day.  More information will come out on this.  Just a reminder - these days are to help get us back into the routines and relationships of school!

Return to School Plan:
We are beginning to look at our return to school in January - and what this will look like for both students and staff.  I am working with Building Leadership, Reading Leadership, and our Equity & Inclusion Team on what questions, supports, and other things we need to consider and implement before students come back.  If you have questions or feedback, please let a member of one of these teams know.  We will share this plan as it becomes final.

December 4 Update

Happy Friday, McKinley!
I hope you had a great week back with students.  I've been in and out of classrooms this week - WOW.  Your compassion,
flexibility, and knowledge of students is easily observed through everything you do.  I appreciate our team so much.

How to be an Anti-Racist:
Below is a link to an article on "How to be an Anti-Racist" (Educational Leadership).  Our job, as educators, is to move to the level of an "anti-racist".  Ibram X Kendi says, "The opposite of racist isn't no racist.  It is anti-racist".   This article gives us some concrete ways we can move to stopping racism -  please take some time to read.

Article - http://www.ascd.org/publications/newsletters/education-update/oct19/vol61/num10/How-to-Be-an-Antiracist-Educator.aspx

Absences & COVID:
We are starting to see more staff out with COVID.  I wanted to remind you of the plan for this type of absence.  First, if you are positive or a close contact, please let Judy and Steph know.  We need to track this information.

If you are able to teach, you can do so.  If you are not able to teach, we have a few options -
  • Pre-record your lesson(s) and post in Google Classroom. Please let students know you are out.
  • Have your co-teacher teach.
  • Have students attend a teammmate's Google Meet.
If those options are all exhausted, we can try and find a sub for you.  Bringing a sub in for distance learning is hard, as they need to be added to your classroom, kids won't know them, and you need to write sub plans.  It's not impossible, just way harder.

Feel free to reach out to me if you run into a situation and just need to brainstorm your options.  I'm here to support.  Also, you may want to run this by your team for a proactive plan - what would you do if one of you goes out sick?

SeeSaw- from Mike Halverson:
Great news, if you are already using the free version of Seesaw account, we've converted it to the premium paid version of Seesaw for Schools over the weekend.  With the Seesaw for School paid version, there are many features available to you such as unlimited activities and the ability to schedule activities (click here for a full comparison of versions and features).

I know many of you are already familiar with Seesaw, but for those that would like a refresher or are new to Seesaw, please watch this quick video.  There is also additional "beyond the basics" PD located here that will help you master your Seesaw skillset to support students & families.

From a personal, parent perspective, I wish we would've been using Seesaw long ago as I know more about what is happening with my son's education than I ever have before thanks to Mr. Langlois and Seesaw. Many parents I've had the opportunity to talk with over the last couple of months are saying the same things so keep up the awesome work all of you are doing.

If you have any questions or concerns, please submit a technology ticket and someone will assist as soon as they are able.

Learning Material Pick-Up:
We are offering a learning material pick-up on Wednesday, December 9.  Please remind families this is a curbside pick up (they should call the office and we will bring it out) between 7:15-4:30pm.  Also, if you have materials to distribute, please have them individually bagged up with the student's name.  We will be offering another one in early January.  I've had a grade level ask about your Volume 2 Math Journal.  Please talk to your team and decide - should the math journal go home now or wait until early January?  Please let Ann or I know if you need assistance.

Distance Learning - Manipulatives:
Here is a site I have come across with some free manipulatives - http://toytheater.com/category/teacher-tools/virtual-manipulatives/

November 20 Update

Happy Friday!
I hope you've had a great week of learning and collaborating with families.  It's a long week, I know.  Thank you for your time, passion, and commitment to our kids and families.

Weekly Schedule - Google Classroom:
Be sure to post your classroom's weekly schedule in your google classroom each week.  It is super helpful for families to be able to see a one pager with all of the live meet times for the week.  Distance learning teachers are also using this form and families have appreciated it.

All School Field Trip - Wednesday, December 2:
Save the date - we are going on an all-school field trip on Wednesday, December 2 at 1:00pm.  More information to come!

Gratitude Challenge:
Don't forget about our November Gratitude Challenge - there is still time to participate!  As you know, expressing gratitude actually helps you, too.  Below are some reminders for us on how important gratitude is for us, too!

Transition Day - Monday, November 30:
We have a transition day on Monday, November 30.  A huge thank you to our transition day team for helping create these activities - and then making sure they are virtual.  Click here to access the transition day document.

November 13 Update

Happy Friday!
I'm going to say it again - I am so proud of this staff.  We literally packed up a school and transitioned to distance learning in a short period of time.  I have had great feedback from families about McKinley - things like, "McKinley really did it WELL", "This is a thousand times better than spring!", and "My student was smiling and happy - I love the McKinley Staff!".  Great work for making this transition so smooth.  You have stayed focused on our students and what is best for them.  Great work!

Can you Relate...

Updates - Distance Learning:
I met with Building Leadership Team this morning to discuss distance learning.   Just a few things for you to know:
  • Staff Absences - if you have a planned absence, please pre-record a lesson and post an activity in your GC.  Also, please let families know that you will be out.  You may want to ask a teaching partner to check in that day.  If an absence is an emergency or illness, please put into AESOP and email Justin.  We will find a sub for you (more than likely Justin or Libby) - so make sure we are collaborators in your classroom.  Let me know if stuff comes up and I'll be glad to help!
  • Student Attendance - please take at the end of the day.  Also, please add comments in - this helps us on what is going on and what communication has already occurred.  Also, you can email Selena, Annette, or I if you have questions or need input.  We know this will be a case by case thing to start and want to help!
  • Get Away From Technology - please don't forget to let families know your hours and to get away from a computer when you are not working.  You need to take care of YOU, too!
  • Engagement Spreadsheet - please watch for an engagement spreadsheet that will come out next week.  This will be a spot to list students who are not engaged or completing work.  Our first job was to get them in (attendance) - now we can support them to get work completed.
Please let me know if you need help or have questions!

Conferences:
Don't forget about conferences next Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.  Please send a reminder out to families with their times.  Also, please don't forget to focus on strengths, as well as areas of growth for students.  We can capitalize on those things that students do well - and it's great for families to know this.  Also, it's important we are honest about areas we are concerned - where students are at, academically/socially/behaviorally.  This is a great time to work with families on this, as well as re-engage them with our new learning platform (distance learning).

Virtual Conference Reminders
*Review the Preparing for conferences link.
*You should have the link on your calendar to access conferences.
*Here is a guide for families on accessing the meet.
*Parents have the link in their email confirmation from PTCFast.com.
*Use this as an opportunity to learn a little more about your students' stories.
*Reach out to Justin or Libby if you want to talk through what to share at conferences.

Building Relationships - Virtually:
As you know, our focus will continue to be on building meaningful relationships with every learner.  You already do this so well - now we get to test it out virtually!  Below are 10 ways to continue to build student relationships.  If you come across other things, or try ideas that you like, please share with our staff.  You can tweet it (#mckinleyPD) or send an email.

I hope you have a great weekend - get outside and do something you love!

November 6 Update

Happy Friday, McKinley!
I hope you've had a great week of learning and relationships!  A huge thank you to Steph and Selena for organizing our food truck yesterday.  It was a great lunch!

Please make sure you are engaged (camera on, not doing other work) during today's learning.  Today's learning is very important and will greatly help us as educators.  It's going to be a great day!

COVID Updates:
Thank you for meeting yesterday.  Just to recap some of the big learning(s):
  • Class Lists/Contact Tracing -  We need to make sure that students are with the same student(s), as much as possible.  As I told you, we need to go through a student's day to find out what exposure has occurred.  It's critical that we decrease the contact students are having for over 15 minutes. There is more below.
  • Privacy - When we are notified of a case, we begin contact tracing.  We contact those that may have come into contact with someone.  If I do not come to you, and you are concerned, you can come directly to me.  It is a directive that we are not talking/gossiping about the situations with colleagues.  This is a privacy issue.  Again, come to me.   Additionally, this includes students. Please talk to your class/classes about discussing this.  As I stated yesterday, it is extremely hard on a student when kids are saying things like "Oh, I bet they have COVID", etc.
  • Google Classroom - Please continue to use Google Classroom (Meets, too) as much as you can. If we need to move to distance learning, it's imperative that students know how to use the device and your digital classroom.
  • Planning - Please think through long-term planning as we move into the winter months.  In the event your class (or the building) go distance learning, it's very helpful to have things ready to go home.  I'm not asking you to plan out 3-4 weeks; I know that you need to be responsive to your students, too.  It's more of a general idea planning - and having copies and other resources ready.
Thank you for your continued energy and support toward these things.  I know this is not easy and we are all tired of it.  I keep telling myself, we need our students to not feel this.  You've done a great job of keeping McKinley a happy, positive place that is focused on students.

Conferences

I have heard several of you talking about the excitement around visiting with families.  Here is the preparing guide that Kenneth created that walks through a lot of the logistics of the virtual conference.

As you plan as a team, you will also want to talk about what information you’ll be sharing for conferences.  This is a great opportunity to hear a little bit more about their stories and share about some of the assets of the students.

You will not have a data sheet printed from the office this year; this is intentional as Fastbridge is cautioning use of the data since it was not normed for the situation we had last spring.  Therefore, please do not share national percentiles with families, as they are unlikely to paint an accurate picture of the student’s academics.  I know that you have seen a lot of growth even since fall, and we do want to share how students are doing academically (as well as socially).  Here are some ideas of things you could share:

  • Progress monitoring information (growth)

  • Formative assessment data (could even be anecdotal)

  • Reading behaviors or goals (instructional goals)

  • Skills or things you are working on and where you are headed (or where we want them to be in this grade level)

You also might share ideas for reading at home (encourage reading at home).

If you have questions about what to share or how to share it, please reach out to Libby as she is more than happy to brainstorm.

Grouping Students/COVID:

I received several questions about partnering and grouping students based on our conversation yesterday.  One idea that has worked well for a few teachers in the building, is to seat students somewhat near their guided reading group members.   This will reduce the number of students that they are in close contact with throughout the day.  We have collaboration time at the end of the day, and it will be important to collaborate with your teams around the professional development that you all received.  However, if you want to take the last few minutes to talk through how you might shift things in your room based on the discussion yesterday and then implement those changes, please do so.

Remember to print the seating charts for specialists when you change them, and give them to them every time you make a change.  Minimizing the frequency of changes will help to maximize students’ time in specialists.

October 30 Update

Happy Friday, everyone!  It sounds like it's going to be a nicer weekend -  I hope you can get outside!

We've got a lot going on - and I can tell emotions and stress are high in the building.  Please make sure you are taking some time for you, as well as checking on and supporting your colleagues.  We all go through situations differently - as the picture above outlines.  Take care of YOU!

Jokesgiving 2020!
On November 24, we will celebrate "Jokesgiving!"  This is a time for staff to have fun and engage with each other.  Each of you are on teams - check out this document for more information!  So, work with your team and start plotting work-appropriate jokes and fun!

Follow-Up from Staff Power Hour:
A follow-up from our meeting on Monday.  We had some great learning work and collaboration around independent and dependent learners.  There were three things I asked you to keep working on/reflecting around:
  1. Student-first language - what language are you using to talk about kids?  Are you using student-first language? (a student who receives EL services, a student who is struggling, etc).  Remember, your words become your beliefs which become your actions!
  2. How do we teach students to become independent learners?
  3. The CTA (Call to Action) you identified
Outdoor Learning:
After our COVID meeting, I'm hearing from staff that kids need to move around, get out of their seats, etc... and that is hard with COVID protocols in place.   Don't forget of all the work we did around outdoor learning.  Taking your students outside is great for movement, but also for a fresh air break.  Your outdoor learning can range in complexity - from taking a math journal page outside to work to planning a lengthy research project that involves nature and outside.  It's all still outdoor learning!

October 23 Update

Good morning!
Ready or not, winter arrived this week!
This quote is a great reminder for us all.   We often get bogged down on the negatives - our ever-growing to-do list, the lack of engagement from some students, COVID, etc.  We let those ideas drain our energy.  Over the next 24 hours, take some self-reflection time and focus on everything you've tackled - accomplished- and succeeded with over the last 3 months.  Your celebrations may range from huge things to much smaller self accomplishments.  Take the time to acknowledge all of these.  We have taken a situation that was impossible and made it work - and done well in the process.  Take some time to celebrate your strength and celebrations - and reflect back on how far you've come in only a month and a half of school!

Reading Records

Have you found a time in your day to start reading records with students?  Reading records provide powerful information to help you be responsive to your guided groups.  It will help you to add goals (and also feel confident that other goals have been reached) and will guide your coaching, introduction and discussion questions for the following lesson.  Fountas and Pinnell suggest one reading record per day so that you have time to analyze and respond.

If you are having difficulty finding time to complete a record each day, or would like to collaborate around administering or responding to the reading record, please reach out to Libby.

Fundraiser Update:
Happy Friday McKinley Huskies, We met as a McKinleyStrong team this past Tuesday and discussed the idea of doing the same fundraiser we did last year. Due to the overwhelming success with it and the items we were able to secure with the fundraising, we plan to do it again this year. Our packets will be here November 9th.  Plan on seeing more from us soon!

Schoolstore will be the program we will use again this year. Schoolstore runs a two-faceted fundraising approach. One facet allows families to provide “gift cards” to us which we use through a partner website. Last year, we raised over $7500 in gift cards. We still have money leftover from those. The second facet of this fundraiser is the ability to ask families who shop online, to go through schoolstore.com and support our school.   This is similar to Amazon Smile (don’t forget to support our wonderful PTO in Amazon Smile) where the shopper will select our school and depending on the company, we receive a kickback. Kohls, Sam’s Club, Disney, Verizon, Scholastic, DoorDash, are a few of the over 300 companies. Last year, this brought in $663! We will get either a percentage of the purchase or a flat rate.  Either way we win!

The gift cards we receive from families have helped purchase all of our playground equipment, prizes for drawings and other items. I have included some of these items below. This year we wanted to offer the option for you to request items for your classroom.  These might include supplies you need, games or materials for indoor recess, ect.  Here is the link to the website where you can look at what your options are for your room.  Please use this form to request items. Note, some items are not always available, as they may be in high demand. The team will review the requests and purchase items as we are able to!

Thank you for supporting our fundraising efforts-we are able to make a big difference!
McKinleyStrong Team

Jokesgiving - SAVE THE DATE!
Back by popular demand - our second annual "Jokesgiving 2020!" On Tuesday, November 24, you and your assigned team create fun jokes and pranks (work appropriate!). Please let me know by Tuesday if you are not interested. I promise it's a good time - nothing to stress about! Staff had a great time last year - we were silly and had fun all day long!

October 14 Update

Happy MEA Break, McKinley!
We made it!  The blog this week is pretty short - but has some important things in it.  Please take some time to read the items carefully....

COVID Reminders - Please read carefully!
A couple of reminders when it comes to programming and COVID:
  • Seating Charts - we should have CURRENT seating charts in Infinite Campus.  If you switch your room around at all, please update this.  This is the first spot we will go to if there is a positive case in your classroom.  I will expect this to be up-to-date so we can begin contact tracing.
  • Management - start thinking of what you are having kids do in your classroom and where they are located.  If one student tests positive, and I had them all come sit up front on the floor, my class will more than likely be all counted as "close contact".  We can't do things we use to do - unfortunately.
  • Social Media - Please be diligent about only posting pictures of students honoring social distancing and masks.  You know I advocate for the use of Twitter - please do not stop doing this. Before you post a picture, please take a moment to look at it from the lens of "COVID" - are kids socially distanced and wearing masks (if they are outside, they don't need masks).  Please let me know if you have questions about this.
Thank you for your support around these reminders!

Self Care - This Long Weekend:
It's been a great start to the school year  - it thrills me to see you and our scholars together and learning!  This start has also created more stress and emotion than any other year.  We don't want to end up saying this...

Please take some time over this long weekend to take care of YOU!  Sleep in, don't get out of your pajamas, have lunch with a friend... anything that takes care of YOU!  Don't set any expectations for the day - just roll with it!

I care about you and your health.  Please take some time this weekend to relax, rejuvenate, and refresh yourself.  You deserve every minute of it!

I'm honored every day to work along side you.   We work hard, we play hard, we have fun.  Now is the time to turn school off and focus on you and your family.  I hope you can enjoy some time for just YOU!  You deserve it.

October 9 Update

Happy Friday, Everyone!
I hope you've had a great week!

I know we have those days - days we are exhausted and have nothing left to give.  Keep this and remind yourself - you made someone smile and feel loved.  This hasn't been the easiest start to a year, has it?  One thing remains constant - we have our students HERE and they are loved.  And, that matters a lot.

Google Tech Toolkit:
Kenneth Griswold recently shared a Google Tech Toolkit. This is a great document with family-friendly information regarding Google.  This may be something you consider sharing with your families - particularly so they are ready for Google in the event we go distance learning (HOPEFULLY NOT!).

Social Media:
Below are some tips and guidelines around using social media with students.  Please remember - I fully encourage and support you to be using social media, particularly Twitter.  If you haven't been, please get on and start to share our story!  Also, don't forget to be sending pictures to socialmedia@isd761.org.

Notes from Libby:
Headphones:
If you have students who did not bring headphones/earbuds and you would like them to have some for use at school (we would collect them again at the end of the year), please send Libby the number of students who do not have some already by Monday (10/12), and we will see how many we can accommodate.

Response to Data Meetings Follow Up:
It was awesome to meet with each grade level team and brainstorm some ideas for supporting students’ growth in literacy and math!
Here are some documents that came up in several of the meetings, and I wanted to make sure everyone had access:
Updated Assessment Criteria (Fastbridge Target Scores)
Fluency Routine
If you want to talk about any support for specific students, please reach out to me, and we can collaborate around that.  I’m encouraged by all of the ideas that people are already putting in place to meet students’ needs and foster their growth!

Independent Reading:
There has been a lot of conversation in the past couple of weeks around purposeful independent reading time.  We know that this year, with the shortened day, they will have even less independent reading time than normal.  It will be more important than ever to make every minute purposeful and productive.  I’ve drafted some ideas for independent reading time; however, the majority of their time should be spent in text, reading and responding.

We know years ago, when we read some research from Lucy Calkins, it was suggested that elementary students need 90 minutes of purposeful time in text each day.  Other research suggests 40-45 minutes of independent in text time during the school day with additional time outside of the school day.  Keep in mind that while guiding reading and independent reading (applying a minilesson) count towards those minutes, IRA or other listening to the text type opportunities where they are not fully engaged in reading the words, does not count towards those minutes.  We need to continue to foster their love of reading so that they are so engaged in books, they want to bring them home and continue reading in the evening!

Reading leadership will be talking at our next meeting about what we can do to encourage reading at home.  If you have ideas or suggestions, connect with your reading leadership rep in the next week.

Building Weekly Newsletter:

It's going to be a beautiful weekend.  Take some time to put school "away" - get outside and enjoy the weather and those you love!  - Justin

October 2 Update

Happy Friday, McKinley Educators!
I hope you've had a great week of learning and relationships.  It's going to start the downward trend for temperature - please remind students we are outside, warm or cold temperature.  Dress for the weather!

What are your actions showing? Your priorities?  This is always a great reminder for me - the words I use, the things I do, and the way I behave all show my priorities.....

Check-In - ALL STAFF should complete:
We are four weeks in - it's time to check in on YOU!  Please complete the survey below.  It's designed around a 3-2-1 response.  Please include 3 responses for the 3 question, 2 responses for the 2 questions, and 1 response for the 1 question.  Please complete this by Wednesday, October 7.  Thank you!

Formative Assessments:
Just a reminder to continue to build in formative assessments into your daily instrcution.  We need checks for understanding and formatvie assessments to know if the teaching is becoming learning.  Technology is a great tool to use to build these formative assessments.

Also, there is no formal reporting (report card) for quarter 1.  We will report for quarters 2, 3, and 4.

Where Did Your Story Begin?  Coming Soon!
We will be putting a large world map in the main hallway in the next week.  Each student and staff will be getting a marker to indicate where in the world their story began.  We may move to having families add this too.  The goal is to continue to recognize - and value- that we started our story somewhere.  Each of our stories add to the assets we bring to McKinley!

Google Classroom:
Just a friendly reminder to get your students into Google Classroom.  In the event we move to distance learning, or need to quarantine a classroom, we are expecting students to be familiar with their Google Classroom.  If you haven't, you will want to get students into this - navigating it and doing learning activities on GC.   If you need help with this, please let Libby or myself know.

On another note, please know that we have detailed plans if we need to close school or a classroom.  The plans clearly outline the steps we would take to notify and move forward with distance learning.  A huge thank you to Michelle Krell and Teaching and Learning for their work on this!  Don't stress, it's covered!

Hashtags & Twitter:
First, I love getting on to Twitter and seeing all the great things you are doing!  If you haven't been sharing, now is your time! If you tweet with something, please use the following hashtags:

#mckinleystrong - to share things specific to our program.
#owatonnaproud - to share things, district-wide, you are proud of.  Our social media company watches this hashtag and uses it for retweets and marketing.

If you do tweet, please make sure you are not showing students' last names.

Building Weekly Update:

Just a friendly reminder to be reading your email carefully.  We do a great job at McKinley of communicating - and keeping everyone in the "know"!  Please make sure you are reading emails carefully and are aware of what is going on in the building.

Have a great weekend, everyone!  Go do something for YOU!

September 25 Update

Happy Friday, McKinley!
I hope you've had a great week!  I love seeing the relationships, routines, and happiness that has filled the building again.

Walkie Talkies:
If you are going outside (outdoor learning and recess), please contact the office and bring a walkie talkie with you.  We are seeing more and more of trying to get a hold of a teacher and they are outside. Please get the walkie and return immediately when you come back in.  Thank you!

Birthday Books:
Don't forget to send students down for a birthday book on the day they celebrate their birthday!

Mindset:
Please don't forget about the power of your mindset.  I recently came across the below quote - "deficit mindset is like an oil spill - it coats every organism, it obscures beauty, it does great harm to the environment, and it's tedious to clean up."  Please remember this as we enter into the 20-21 school year.  If your mindset looks for deficits, you will find it.  But, your thinking also impacts the environment and "beauty" of McKinley.   You are responsible for the mindset you bring to McKinley each day!  :)

Google Meets - Virtual Whiteboard:
Below is a tweet from our Technology Department regarding a virtual whiteboard that is built into Google Meet.  If you need assistance with this, feel free to connect with Brent or Libby.  Also, if you aren't on Twitter yet, now is your time!  Twitter is an amazing spot to learn new ideas, share resources, and collaborate. It's free- join today!

September 18 Update

Happy Friday, McKinley!  I hope you had a great week of learning and relationships!

Just a reminder - complete your Benchmark Assessments by Friday, September 25th.  They should be entered into Infinite Campus by 9/30.  Please see your Reading Leadership Team rep or Libby with questions.

Staff Daily Health Check:
Please make sure you are checking your conditions each morning.  If you are not feeling well, or showing symptoms of illness, please connect with myself or Judy.

Twitter Challenge:
Congrats to Katie Demmer's class for winning the Twitter Challenge.  This was a hard decision as there were so many great entries.  Below is 2A's submission:

It is imperative that we are monitoring masks and face shields in the building - with staff and students.  Masks or face coverings are required.  If you are wearing a shield, you must have a mask when you leave your instructional area.  Also, please be monitoring masks in your classroom, too.  Students need to be wearing masks unless you have built in a mask break.  Please watch this!

Badges:
Also, don't forget about your badge.  You must be wearing your badge at all times.

Power Hour:
We had a great PowerHour this week - thank you for your passion and learner-mindset!  A few reminders-

Don't forget about positive communication - including Positive Office Referrals.  The more we can build relationships and communicate, the better!

What's your Call to Action (CTA) from Monday?  Check in with your accountability buddy!

Devices:

We need your help with device assignment.  Each device has a barcode and has been issued to an individual student.   When Brent goes in to look at these, the names on the device and the barcode "assignment" don't always match.  This is an issue as the family will be billed if the device is not returned.  This is where we need your help -

First, make sure the name (if you put a tag on the device) and the barcode “assignment” match up.  If you have questions, see Brent.

Second, if you have students leave (or join) your classroom, please connect with Brent.  The device needs to be checked in and reissued to the new student.

Please help with this - thanks!

Instructional Routines by Model:
Below is a document that with instructional routines and what the MDH guidelines are.  This has been developed through Teaching and Learning - our Reading Leadership Team looked at it yesterday.  Please remember a few things - first, we are "in person" now.  If we move to hybrid, we will need to change a few routines and approaches.  Secondly, please do not stress out about these.  Everyone is working hard to create routines that are in compliance with what is being asked.  If we move to a new model, we will assist you.  This document is just something to start thinking "what if..."... Click here to access the document
